November Captain’s Report

Mahi Mahi

Rivers

Mangrove Jack are being taken in all the rivers. The Noosa system has been producing some large dusky flathead. School jew, giant trevally and whiting have been caught in the Maroochy River while diamond and golden trevally are being hooked in the Mooloolah River. Sand and mud crabs are moving in the Passage.

Reef

North Reef off Noosa has still been producing good jew and cod. A few snapper are still around out on the banks. Cobia, pearl perch and the occasional coral trout have also been on the chew.

Light tackle

The light tackle billfish scene has been a little slow with only a hand full of fish having been seen/tagged so far. With good reports coming from up north at Fraser Island we are hopeful the fish will arrive in time for the Billfish Bash. Mahi mahi have been biting from the 8 mile to the shelf. Fish from 6 to 20kg have been caught.

Heavy tackle

The heavy tackle fishing has been quiet good this last month. Blue and stripe marlin have been encountered from the Noosa canyons to Moreton Island wide. The dog leg has been a good starting point with bait being sounded a little north of this mark. Hopefully we are in for a great heavy tackle season with good reports still coming down from Fraser Island wide. Some huge blue marlin have been encountered with one that possibility may have pushed 1000lb mark.
